Easter Eggs and Abomination

Well, how about this:  I finally got myself a sweet little camera.  So far I am thrilled with the pictures I'm taking.  And after I figure out the easiest way to get the pictures on the blog, I will be all set.  Trying to blog effectively on dial-up, without a camera is a bit of a challenge.   So, I bit the bullet and stuck it on the credit card.  Which means I will end up paying some mean interest on it (along with the rest of the rather scary balance) but hopefully only for a couple months.  But now I have a camera for spring, and the chicks, knitting and Yarn Harlot!

The chicks have arrived safe and sound.  With the cold weather, we moved them into our basement.  We've always brooded them in the basement in previous years, but it's incredibly messy as they get older.  Every thing gets coated in "chicken dust".  And since we have actually made part of our basement into li000_0032_3ving space, the chicks were to be banished.  So we fixed up the little shed/barn we have and it's quite nice.  But the weather has turned so cold that Keith and I were too nervous to leave them out there.  It's plenty warm in there under the brooder lamps, but if the power went out, or the bulb burned out, they would freeze in short order.  So we brought them in for at least a few days.   Oooh, they are so cute.  And speaking of cute:  This is Tulip the guinea pig.  Remember the guinea pigs?  Well, they are hard to flatten into a scanner, but now with the new camera I can  finally introduce them to you.  I'll save the other one for next time (too many other pics I'm trying to load).  Isn't she sweet?  She's a texel, which means she has wavy long hair that just keeps on getting longer.  I give her a haircut every once in a while.  I actually found someone on the net who says she spins texel fiber, but I haven't pursued that yet.

We dyed Easte000_0028r eggs today. The girls were so excited.  I broke down and bought a dozen white eggs, but we also tried our brown and blue/green eggs.  And some duck eggs.  And you know what?  Our eggs turned out great.   The brown eggs seemed to make the colors richer and deeper and a tad more earthy.  See the really dark green one and the really dark pink one?  Then we had some dye left over, soo....you know.  Well, that's where the abomination part of the title comes in.  Introducing the new "arse-ugly egg dye"000_0027  colorway of sock yarn.  Well, you know, the girls like it.  Different strokes.  I like parts of it.  I shouldn't have added the green.  Or maybe I should have just dumped the dye down the sink and moved on.

So, tomorrow I will get cracking with the new camera.  Keith's vest is done.  Done.  And now I am done.

Yeahhh for the new camera!!! The pictures are great! Little Tulip is so fluffy and cute.
We are doing Easter eggs tonight - Maybe I'll let the boys dye some yarn...or not. One of your girls - ?Shiloh - likes bright yarn, right? - I think I see some speckled pink/orange/green/brown Easter socks coming soon....

Amazing--I have a skein of worsted that EXACT same color (that I made this afternoon). Yikes. Two came out nice, but one had that same brown bleed in it where the pink (or was it purple?) and green got a little too close together. *sigh* Hope you had fun with it, anyway. :)
